What is the Molly-Dharma Run? And where did it’s name come from?

  • The Molly-Dharma Run (MDR) began in 2007 to benefit MaxFund, a No-Kill Animal Shelter in Denver, Colorado.
  • This motorcycle ride event was named for Molly-Dharma, a very large, intimidating dog, who had many issues to overcome before she could be adopted, and who was kept at MaxFund for over two and a half years before Kirk Zimmerman adopted her.  Ken Mann walked Molly at MaxFund and introduced her to Kirk when she looked, and acted, like she wanted to rip him to pieces.  It was touch and go in the beginning, very difficult.  Kirk and Ken co-founded this event in Molly’s honor for MaxFund in 2007, and have done this event every year since.  Read her story, and watch her story, on the MDR website www.Molly-DharmaRun.org and follow her event on Facebook at Molly-Dharma Annual Motorcycle Run.  Molly turned 12 in September of 2015, and crossed the Rainbow Bridge in 2016.
  • R.I.P. Ms. Molly-Dharma 9/01/2003 – 8/19/2016
  • In 2012, the Molly-Dharma Run became a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in its own right, in order to promote and help other shelters in Denver and Colorado.
  • Gratitude is what this ride is all about.  Gratitude from Molly for finding her forever home, gratitude to all the rescue organizations and their volunteers, who work so hard and make it possible to find forever homes for the countless dogs and cats still in shelters!  We hope that you will consider adopting your next pet from a shelter … perhaps one that the MDR has supported.
  • This event is about using Molly and her story to Pay It Forward … promoting and helping worthy animal rescue organizations, especially the smaller ones, to find forever homes for all the animals in their care!  The MaxFund benefited from the MDR for 6 years. In 2013, www.imhs.org benefited, in 2014 www.hsspv.org benefited, in 2015 www.everycreaturecounts.org benefited, and in 2016 www.EAPL.com benefited from this event.  We hope to find other special shelters each year, and we hope you have a great time on this ride for this year’s very deserving rescue organization.
  • This year, 2017, we’re happy to have another worthy shelter to benefit from the 11th Annual Molly-Dharma Run. That rescue organization is Planet Pet in Wheat Ridge, Colorado

We would like to thank you in advance for any help you can provide,
because we cannot do this without our wonderful volunteers!!

We would love to hear from people that love animals and would like to volunteer to be on a committee, or especially to volunteer to help us put on the Molly-Dharma Run on Event Day (always the second Sunday in June)! Consider volunteering with a friend … that can be a lot of fun for you and a friend.  Please contact us using the information below.  Thank you!

Molly-Dharma Run Event Day Notes:
Please note:  We do like to have fun and as a volunteer we request you enjoy yourself too!  As soon as you have fulfilled the duties you have volunteered for, we would like you to stay, and enjoy the food and drink and meet all the riders and people who make this event a success year after year.  Oh, and bring your friends!  You do not need a motorcycle to enjoy the party at Thunderbird Roadhouse, just a fun attitude!

Donations:
We need volunteers to help us solicit donations, either monetary or gifts for door prizes for the run.  This can be done either individually or as a group.  We pick a few Saturday Mornings through the month and set out in groups of 3 or 4.  Please let us know if you are interested and we will let you know the dates, where to meet and times to meet.  We have a lot of fun doing this, hope you can join in with us.
